Hello again readers
Let me begin this blog with a question…”Who is the most infamous murderer of all time”. OK quite a few candidates for that one but many would immediately think of the Whitechapel Slasher. The infamous murderer whose was never caught and whose identity has never been revealed, quite possibly because he was high-born and there was one almighty cover-up?
Now the BBC are showing a very gritty historical crime series based in East London and set shortly after the Ripper murders. It is not about Jack the Ripper. It is very much about the life and times and crimes of East London in late Victorian England. It is set in H Division, the very real life Police Station where the Hunt for Jack was coordinated. The three main characters are Inspector Edmund Reid and his faithful Sergeant Bennet Drake. They are joined (somewhat surprisingly) by Captain Homer Jackson an ex-American Army surgeon and one-time Pinkerton Detective. The series is very violent and very bloody and three main characters are ably assisted by Long Susan and Rose whose occupations would have placed them in grave danger should Jack still be stalking the narrow lanes and alleyways!
Anyone interested in historical crime would surely find this of interest, catch it now while you still can.
It will be available on BBC America starting Sat Jan 19th, here is a Youtube link
Here is a link to a BBC web page about the series.
